Manchester & District Cat Club Show 1st May 2010

My thanks to Dorothy and the Manchester & District committee for their kind invitation to judge at their very friendly and happy show. I had a lovely day in my first outing as a full judge. Thank you for kind present and the traditional Lancashire lunch!

Class 408a Chocolate Burmese Kitten Male

1st Mrs Hall’s SAMADHI SIN WITH A GRIN 27b M 8-1-2010 (3 months 3 weeks and 3 days) A very sweet young chap who was little out of balance today, no doubt due to growth spurts. He has a rather gentle expression to his fairly large eyes. They have fully rounded lower lids yet the upper lids were a touch hooded for my taste, but they had a gentle slant to the nose. They are well set in his head and are golden yellow in colour with hints of inner chartreuse rims. Face on he has a reasonably short wide wedge which was a little pinched today. He has a level bite. He has good rounding to the top of his head. His ears are set reasonably well apart and are in good proportion for the size of his head. They are wide in the base with rounded tips. His skull shows reasonably good depth in profile. It has a rounded brow, but his nose break lacks definition at present and his nose had a wee bump and fell away slightly at the end. His lower jaw has acceptable depth, but I would prefer more and it was slightly receding. He has a solid well muscled body with a well rounded chest and a straight back. His legs are elegant yet sturdy and in proportion to his body, with taller hind legs, they have neat oval paws. His tail balances to the shoulder and tapers to a rounded end from a medium base. His coat still has a kitten soft texture to it and is quite short. It was a warm, yet a pale chocolate with minimal contrast in his mask and ears. A very gentle young man who was shown in super condition and purred away very nicely for me this morning.

Class 408b Chocolate Burmese Kitten Female

1st & BoB Mr & Mrs Williams’ MOLYNMEUX DINKYDEUX 27b F 25-10-2009 (6 months 6 days) Also my nomination and final choice for BOV Burmese Kitten, I was very pleased to see she became overall Best Burmese today – congratulations to her breeder-owners. A bit of a wriggler who had lots to say for herself this morning, but she soon settled down nicely and allowed me to assess her. Looking rather lovely today. She has large and lustrous eyes which have good definition to the upper lids and superb fullness to lower lids when she settles down, they are also set very well and are golden yellow in colour. Face on she has a short wide wedge which tapers to a blunt muzzle and has a level bite. She has lovely rounding between her ears which are set very well apart, they are nicely balanced, wide in the base and have rounded tips. She has a very typical contour to her upper face. Her profile shows good depth to her skull. She has pleasing rounding to her brow. Her nose break was good but I would prefer greater definition still, a straight nose line, her lower jaw has good depth, her chin is strong and it is correctly aligned to the end of her nose in a straight vertical plane. Her medium body has good weight for her size and has excellent muscle tone. She has a straight back and a strong chest. Her stance shows correctly taller hind legs which were slender and elegant. She has neat spoon shaped paws. Her tail balances and tapers very well to a paint brush tip from a medium base. Her coat is short and has a superb satin texture for a kitten - a very mature feel. It is a warm honey toned chocolate with minimal contrast to her mask and ears. She was shown in excellent condition and handled well once she settled – I wondered if she might be starting her first call.

2nd Dr Collin’s AUREUS BEWITCHED 27b F 18-01-2010 (3 months 1 week & 6 days) Very babyish little person. She has quite large and lustrous eyes, the upper lids were rather full and rounded today yet she had very good fullness to lower lids and they are set very well apart. They are golden yellow in colour. Face on she has a short wedge which is lacking width at present. She has a level bite, but was teething today. She has pleasing rounding between her ears which are set very well apart, they are rather large for her head at present and dominate somewhat; wide in the base and having rounded tips. Her profile shows good depth to her skull. She has good rounding to her brow yet in profile it was a tad long. She lacks definition in her nose break due to her teething no doubt and has a mostly straight nose line, whilst her lower jaw has reasonable depth I would like a little more for perfection, it is correctly aligned to the end of her nose in a straight vertical plane. Her medium body has good weight for her dainty size and had excellent muscle tone. She has a straight back and a strong chest. Her stance shows correctly taller hind legs, all of her limbs were slender and elegant. She has neat oval paws. Her tail balances and tapers very well to a paint brush tip from a medium base. Her coat was short but felt a little harsh along her spine line today; it is pale chocolate in colour with minimal contrast to her mask and ears. She was shown in excellent condition and was a little shy to start off with, but very sweet and gentle. Showing promise, I will be watching out to see how she develops.

My essential thoughts on the Side Classes:

1st Mr Thomas’ KITAI MAJESTIC MARLEY – so pretty, super expression and an amazing pattern! A little grouchy today however.
