10th July 2010 Humberside CC and Lincoln CC Shows

My thanks to Beryl & Judy for inviting me to judge at this special show. I must say everything seemed to run very well and I was very impressed with the paperwork some really novel touches. I was ably assist by Wayne Vessey who handling of all the exhibits was exemplary, his good humour and company a joy. My abject apologies to Liz for double booking again and thank you for being so very understanding of this dim wit! It was a real privilege steward for Mrs Gregory at Best of Best and a joy to find my first two exhibits of the day had made the final cut and especially thrilling that Rossikhan Yum Yum was chosen as Best of Best – which really made my day.

Open Classes:
Class L 344 Asian Tabby Kitten
1st & BoB Mrs Kemp’s NAZKATZ KEEPSAKE 72 45 ,M, 1/3/10
A very handsome young man. He has large and lustrous muddy golden eyes, which are well set. He has a short wide wedge, level bite, fairly blunt muzzle and well set ears which have good shape and size. In profile he has reasonable depth to his skull, a rounded brow, his nose break is reasonable but more definition is desired, his nose line is essentially straight with a slight falling away a the very end, his jaw correctly aligns in a straight vertical plane to the end of his nose, but I would prefer more depth to his lower jaw. His medium sized body is well muscled, it has a strong chest and straight back. His legs are in proportion to his body with correctly taller hind legs with spoon shaped paws. His tail was little short to balance to the shoulder. BCR brown ticking was evident but the ground was a rather pale, he has an M to his forehead, a scarab to his brow, spectacle markings to face, a single broken necklace, smudges to his fore and hind legs, solid hocks, a clear spine line which descends down to a solid tail tip. His coat is still rather kittenish in length at present but he was shown in super condition and was a delight to hand being very playful and happy.

Class L408 Chocolate Burmese Kitten
1st & BoB Mrs Wilshaw’s ROSSIKHAN YUM YUM 27b, F, 23/3/10
Gorgeous was my first observation and I was soon hear others seemingly speaking my thoughts out loud as she was already gaining quite a lot of attention amongst my fellow judges first thing in the morning! She has very pleasing large and lustrous golden yellow eyes, super shape to both upper and lower lids, and set well apart – she has a typical Burmese expression! Sporting a short wide wedge, level bite and nice blunt muzzle, super setting to her ears which were suitably full at this age, but continued the typical contour desirous of the breed, she has super rounding to her head. In profile she has deep skull, again nicely rounded brow, excellent nose break, a straight nose line with tiny falling away at the end, she has good depth of jaw which is correctly aligned. Dainty but well muscled body which a strong chest and straight back. Her legs are in proportion, taller in the hind and having neat oval paws, her tail balances and taper nicely to a paintbrush tip. Her coat was exceptionally short and silky in texture is was the most pleasing honey toned shade of chocolate with bare minimum contrast to her mask. Shown in excellent condition and having a delightfully sweet temperament. It was as I said in my preamble an absolute delight to handle her again for Mrs Gregory later at Best of Best and watching delight in the crowd’s reactions to her as well is something I will always remember – I think her mother also has done the same if my memory serves me correctly.

Miscellaneous Classes:
H636 AV Foreign Novice Adult
1st REXIVAL SCHEHERAZADE a super sphynx with stunning lemon shaped eyes and excellent confirmation. Shown is wonderful condition and joy to handle – a really attractive exhibit!
2nd GLENDAVAN PURPLE HAZE unlucky to meet the winner today – this young man has so much going for him, lovely head type, gorgeous golden eyes - would like little more width to his muzzle but he’s still young, super ticking and pleasing rich colours to ground and base ticking, coat has drag, elegant body confirmation, tail to balance and he has lovely show temperament.
3rd KAGURA MERIADOC pleasing young Shaded Asian, who is very promising - super large and lustrous eyes, nice head type with super rounding in all planes. Clear markings on his head and solid body just a little fractious but sown in excellent condition.

H642 AV Foreign Radius Adult
1st MACHIKA TATIANA NIKOLAEVNA A pleasant Russian girl still under a year but well grown, rather straight in the profile and eyes are a little deep set but she has good square muzzle and super coat for density and pleasing tone of blue with a clear silvery sheen.

H660 AV Foreign Junior Neuter
1st REXTACULAR FIZZY LIZZIE A super Devon who blew me away she seems to have everything- super head type, amazing eyes for size, shape and set, great width at the cheeks super depth to her chin and a great nose stop. Very well covered with a patterned rex coat, solid body with good weight and muscle tone, tail balances – very impressive! Handled beautifully too.
2nd AMEEKA PIED HARRIER a very pleasing Ocicat Classic, lovely clarity and definition to his pattern. Lovely head type with a long yet square muzzle expressive pale chartreuse eyes and solid well grown body. Lovely show temperament.
Extra 2nd A pleasing Ocicat who was not a long a I would liked in the muzzle, otherwise pleasing head type, profile did have a good curve though and pale green eyes. Super spotting although there was some linkage and greying to the roots which rather mutes the tone. Well grown lad.
3rd PR PONTABY MONTAGNA

H679 AC Burmese Novice Kitten
1st ROSSIKHAN YUM YUM see above
2nd VELVITMIST GORGEOUS GIRL – by name like nature she was truly gorgeous and at any other show would have been rather difficult to beat, so was very unlucky to meet the winner today. She has really classic type; large and lustrous eyes, well set and shaped, please width at cheeks, a short wide wedge, level bite, good dept to skull pleasing nose break and nice depth to chin. Nicely grown and muscled body for her age, elegant limbs, neat oval paws and tail to balance. Her coat is still rather babyish but is a pleasing pink toned lilac mingled with shades of cream. She has a very sweet nature and look forward to watching her development. Loved her expression!

H682 AC Burmese Visitors Kitten
1st ROSSIKHAN YUM YUM see above

H768 Friendliest Natured Exhibit – AV Foreign Cat, Kitten or Neuter
I judged this class purely on who as the friendliest and not the standard.
1st LYDFORD SPOOKYPAWZ – a very sweet white Devon baby (she was very impressive in terms of the standard too!) who purred away for us and simply enjoyed being out of her pen for a cuddle.
2nd CH NISHALKAKHEPRI and rather charming blue Aby who made mud pies for us and enjoyed being handled and cuddled!
3rd GRPR GLENDAVAN LEONIDAS a very calm chap who handled very well indeed.

H755 AV & AC Cat, Kitten or Neuter with a March Birthday
1st VELVITMIST GORGEOUS GIRL see above
2nd ISADORYOU PINK FLOYD – a very attractive Mane Coon who was rather hot and bothered by the time we saw him. I just loved his leonine head type – such a strong square muzzle and alert ears really gives you the impression you are in the presence of someone who knows his own worth and is very proud of it too. Super red on silver pattern that is so appealing and a well prepared silky flowing coat. A well grown lad with all the accoutrements. Very impressive unlucky to meet such a stunning Burmese kitten!
Extra 2nd NAZKATZ KEEPSAKE see above
3rd MIMAPERKS WINDMILL GIRL (see below)

H784 AC Burmese Section Adult
1st CH CHIARO ZINZERO – a super well grown young man who has an impressive rich red colour which I just love! He had lots to say for himself today – think he was enjoying the heat actually. Large eyes with a deep rich yellow, good nose break, chin could be a fraction deeper but good width to cheeks. Solid body and elegant limbs, tail just balances. A real character!

L658 AV Foreign Senior Adult
1st GRCH KAGURA KATISHA a super Asian Ticked Tabby who has everything - super head type, lovely pattern and super temperament too boot, shown in excellent condition – I can live with her coat length – so no one’s perfect . . .
2nd GRCH GLENDAVAN RODERICK JAMES A super Aby so unlucky to come across such a stunning Asian. He has so much going for him where to begin; lovely head type, super coat love the drag and richness of his colours, super body confirmation and very impressive hocks!!!
Extra 2nd CH REXIRU DEVONWEARS PRADA A lovely Devon with a great stop, chin could be a fraction deeper, wicked eyes for shape, size and expression, solid body, tail doesn’t quite balance, well covered with a good rex coat – super expression to her eyes!
3rd GRCH NATANGO’S GHANIYAH OF GENIEMAU
Extra 3rd JENANCA CLARISSA

L674 AV Foreign Aristocrat Neuter
1st SILSILA HARRY POTTER Loved his large pale eyes and width to his muzzle, pleasing profile good depth of chin. Well grown body, tail balances, elegant limbs, pleasing ticking coat has good drag.
2nd MIMAPERKS WINDMILL GIRL I felt she looked a tad too Burmese for me, good blue eyes but they were rather full and I felt her wedge was shorter than desired. Pleasing silky coat which was a little brindled in place but essential a warm mid tone chocolate. Beautifully tapered tail which balanced nicely. Shown in super condition and behaved very nicely.

L709 AC Burmese Neuter resident outside Lincs
1st PR SYKRIS AKHENATEN How this boy is coming on . . . He has large and lustrous expressive pale chartreuse eyes, a short wide wedge, his chin could be a tad deeper but his profile depth is good, pleasing nose break, chin set back a smidgen. Solid well grown body, legs in proportion, tail just short to balance – excellent silky coat and of pleasing warm brown with hints of chestnut tones. In a bit of a strop today, but handled well enough – loved his expression which of course was enhanced by his mood!
2nd PR MOLYNMEUX ISOBEL A rather classic looking blue who had lots to say for herself today. She has large and lustrous chartreuse eyes with great slants to the upper lids super fullness to her lower lids. Pleasing short wide wedge, blunt muzzle good rounding to head on all planes, nice depth to skull and a good nose break, but has a wee bump to her nose line. Well grown body, slender elegant limbs, tail too short to balance. Super silky coat that is a pleasing pale blue with plenty of silvering to rounded areas. Narrowly missed out to the winner today.
3rd GRPR SUGARBOWL HUNKYDORY This girl has quite large pale chartreuse eyes, good break but her chin needs more depth, I do find there is too much width between her ears which rather forces the ears to be far too low set for my taste which upsets the balance of her head. Her coat usually seemed a tad woolly today – she handles very well and was otherwise in excellent condition.
4th PR CHIARO SERAFINA Still a work in progress and not quite able to complete with the above today.

Lakeland Cat Club Show 19-06-2010

My thanks to my steward, Liz Prescott, for her company and excellent handling of the cats. Also to Ed and the Lakeland committee for inviting me back to judge at their show on another glorious June day. A real pleasure to be allowed to sign tickets at this show who very kindly thought of me last year when they need a replacement judge - thank guys.

Open Classes:

AC Burmese Champion Male

An excellent class with 3 lovely lads all very well behaved impeccably and were privilege to judge today.

GRCC Mr & Mrs Barrett’s CH ROSSIKHAN URSA MAJOR 27c M 11-06-2008 This boy has a superb expression – his eye beguile you from first sight. He has large and lustrous eyes, upper lids have very good slants to the nose and generous rounding to lower lids, they are set well apart and are pale chartreuse in colour. They really did have a superb expression! He has a short wide wedge, it tapers well to a blunt muzzle and has a level if messy bite. Gentle rounding between ears that are a good size for balanced and are set well apart. He has a pleasing contour to his upper face. His skull has good depth, a rounded brow, his nose break has very good definition and he has a straight nose line. His lower jaw has reasonable depth and is correctly set in an aligning vertical plane to the end of his nose, chin could be a fraction fuller for perfection. His medium sized body has good weight and muscle tone, he has a strong chest and straight back. His limbs are in proportion and he has good stance and oval shaped paws. His tail is a fraction short for balance, it tapers well to a paint brush end. His coat is very short and has good texture, it is a pleasing pink toned lilac. He has a super relaxed show temperament, was very affectionate and was a pleasure to handle.

Reserve GRCC Mrs Ferguson’s GRCH TEAROHA AUGUSTUS BROWN 27 M 21-07-2008 Another charming relaxed lad. He has quite large eyes, his upper lids have good slants to the nose and acceptable rounding to lower lids, they are set well apart and are pale chartreuse in colour with a darker inner ring. He has a short, medium width wedge, it tapers to a fairly blunt muzzle and has a level bite. Gentle rounding between ears that have good size, are balanced and set well apart. His skull has reasonable depth, a rounded brow, his nose break has good definition but he has a bump on his nose which interrupts the line. His lower jaw has acceptable depth and was set back marginally. His large body has very good weight and muscle tone, he has a strong chest and straight back. His limbs are in proportion and he has a good stance. He has pleasing spoon shaped paws. His tail is just short to balance and tapers well to a paint brush end. His coat is reasonably short and has super silky texture, it is a pleasing chestnut brown and very sleek. He has a lovely temperament and was quite the charmer!

Lilac Burmese Adult

1st CC not awarded Mrs Coulter’s ROMID SUMMERSUN SABRINA 27c F 12-09-2009 Sorry to disappoint but she really was smaller than all of my kittens and lacked sufficient maturity to complete for CCs . She has reasonable sized eyes which have acceptable definition to the upper lids which she tended to round when excited and good fullness to lower lids, they are also set well and are pale yellow in colour, with an inner chartreuse ring. Face on she has a fairly short medium width wedge which tapers to a blunt muzzle and has a level bite. She needs more rounding between her ears which are set very well apart. Her profile shows medium depth to her skull. She has a rather flat brow. Her nose break was good but I would prefer greater definition. She a small bump on her nose line, her lower jaw lacks adequate depth and recedes. All in all her head lacks width and is still very much a work in progress. Her body has good weight for her size. She has a straight back and a strong chest. Her stance shows correctly taller hind legs which were dainty and elegant. She has spoon shaped paws. Her tail just balances and tapers to a rather blunt end. Her coat is still babyish and was rather woolly today, it is pale lilac with mushroom tone in colour. She was a delight to handle, rather chatty but purred lots – she had good condition and was presented well.

BOB Mr & Mrs Barrett’s CH ROSSIKHAN URSA MAJOR (see above)

Red Burmese Adult

BOB Mrs Akehursts CH CHIARO ZINZERO 27 d M 12-06-2009 Unfortunately a little apprehensive today and not showing to his best advantage. He has quite large eyes, he was tending to hood his upper lids today but he does have good rounding to lower lids, they are set well apart and are golden yellow in colour. He has a short wide wedge, it tapers well to a blunt muzzle and has a level bite. Gentle rounding between ears that are good for size, balanced and are set well apart. His skull has quite good depth, a gently rounded brow which appeared marginally long, his nose break has very good definition and he has a straight nose line. His lower jaw has reasonable depth and is correctly set in an aligning vertical plane to the end of his nose, chin could be deeper for perfection. His large body has good weight and muscle tone, he has a strong chest and straight back. His limbs are in proportion and have good stance. He has oval shaped paws. His tail balances and it tapers well to a paint brush end. His coat is quite short and has good texture in general although there were a few harsh spots along his back, it is a very pleasing rich warm red in tone which I really like. Unfortunately just a little tense today and I could not encourage him to relax enough although I did spend quite some time with him.

Chocolate Burmese Kitten

1st & BOB Mr & Mrs Williams MOLYNMEUX DINYDEUX 27b F 25-10-2009 This kitten has well balanced type and was looking rather lovely today with a super expression. She has large and lustrous eyes which have good definition to the upper lids and superb fullness to lower lids, they are also set very well and are pale yellow in colour. Face on she has a short wide wedge which tapers to a blunt muzzle and has a level bite. She has lovely rounding between her ears which are set very well apart, they are nicely balanced, wide in the base and have rounded tips. She has a very typical contour to her upper face – lovely butterfly wing effect. Her profile shows good depth to her skull. She has pleasing rounding to her brow. Her nose break was very good. She has a straight nose line, her lower jaw has good depth and it is correctly aligned to the end of her nose in a straight vertical plane. Her body has good weight for her size and has pleasing muscle tone. She has a straight back and a strong chest. Her stance shows correctly taller hind legs which were dainty and elegant. She has spoon shaped paws. Her tail balances and tapers very well to a paint brush tip from a medium base. Her coat was short and has a superb silky texture. It is a pleasing honey tone chocolate with minimal contrast to her mask and ears. She was shown in excellent condition and handled well although she was a tad wriggly, she did enjoy a cuddle from me and my steward.

2nd Miss Jones SIGISMUND BEWITCHED 27b F 27-10-2009 A very well grown kitten. She has quite large eyes which have good definition to the upper lids but could take more fullness to lower lids, they are set well and are muddy golden yellow in colour, with a darker chartreuse inner rim. Face on she has a short wide wedge which tapers to a blunt muzzle and has a level bite. She has pleasing rounding between her ears which are set well apart, they are nicely balanced, wide in the base and have rounded tips. Her profile shows reasonably good depth to her skull. She has pleasing rounding to her brow. Her nose break was good. She has a straight nose line which just falls away a trifle at the end, her lower jaw has good depth, but I would just like a fraction more for perfection, her chin is correctly aligned to the end of her nose in a straight vertical plane. Her body has good weight for her size and has excellent muscle tone. She has a straight back and a strong chest. Her stance shows correctly taller hind legs which were dainty and elegant. She has neat oval paws. Her tail balances and tapers very well to a rounded tip from a medium base. Her coat was quite short and has a silky texture. It is a darker chocolate than our first placed kitten but with very minimal contrast consequently, there were a few hints of ghosting to her legs. She was delightfully playful youngster who handled very well and was a pleasure to meet.

Lilac Burmese Kitten

1st & BOB Mr Taylor’s RAWEKE GOODGOLLY MISS MOLLY 27c F 17-12-2009 A rather shy youngster. She has quite large eyes, she tends to hood the upper lids and has fullness to lower lids, they are set very well and are muddy yellow in colour, with inner chartreuse rims. Face on she has a short wide wedge which tapers to a blunt muzzle and has a level bite. She has gentle rounding between her ears which are set very well apart, they are nicely balanced, wide in the base and have rounded tips. Her profile shows reasonably good depth to her skull. She has pleasing rounding to her brow. Her nose break was good but I would prefer greater definition, but there is time for that to develop. She has a straight nose line, her lower jaw has reasonably good depth, but I would just a fraction more for perfection although it was also set back slightly. Her body has very good weight for her size and has excellent muscle tone. She has a straight back and a strong chest. Her stance shows correctly taller hind legs which were dainty and elegant. She has spoon shaped paws. Her tail balances and tapers very well to a paint brush tip from a medium base. Her coat was reasonably short and has a silky texture. It is medium toned mushroom lilac with casting evident. Although a little shy she handled very well and enjoyed a big cuddle.

Brown Burmese Neuter

2 Considered for BoB only - whilst he was delightful to handle and clearly enjoying his day out she was rather ill tempered and not having a good time today. Eventually I had to follow the age old mantra “type above everything”

BoB Dr Giles’ CH & GRPR RAWEKE MIRROR IMAGE 27 FN 20-08-2007 – In rather a foul mood, large and lustrous eye of pale yellow with excellent shape which were only enhanced by her mood. She has a short wide wedge, a level bite and a blunt muzzle. She has good rounding between her well proportioned ears which add well to the upper contour of her head. Her head has good depth, rounded brow, good nose break, straight nose, jaw has reasonable depth and aligns correctly. Well filled body, strong chest and back, limbs in proportion with oval paw tail balance to a paint brush end. Deep rich brown glossy cat which is soft and silky. Shame about her attack of the grumps today!

Cream Burmese Neuter

BOB Miss Coulter’s GRPR JACOU BORNTOBOOGIE BEAU 27f MN 03-08-2008 A very relaxed and gentle chap. Quite large eye of pale yellow. He has a short wide wedge, a level bite and a blunt muzzle. Good rounding between his ears. His head shows reasonably good depth in profile, rounded brow, good nose break, straight nose but rather shallow jaw. Well filled large body, strong chest and back, limbs in proportion having oval paws. Tail balances and tapers to a paint brush end with a rather irregular final vertebrae. A rather hot cream coat which although generally was short in length it was rather harsh in paces. A pleasure to meet today and he loves every minutes of being handled too!

Manchester & District Cat Club Show 1st May 2010

My thanks to Dorothy and the Manchester & District committee for their kind invitation to judge at their very friendly and happy show. I had a lovely day in my first outing as a full judge. Thank you for kind present and the traditional Lancashire lunch!

Class 408a Chocolate Burmese Kitten Male

1st Mrs Hall’s SAMADHI SIN WITH A GRIN 27b M 8-1-2010 (3 months 3 weeks and 3 days) A very sweet young chap who was little out of balance today, no doubt due to growth spurts. He has a rather gentle expression to his fairly large eyes. They have fully rounded lower lids yet the upper lids were a touch hooded for my taste, but they had a gentle slant to the nose. They are well set in his head and are golden yellow in colour with hints of inner chartreuse rims. Face on he has a reasonably short wide wedge which was a little pinched today. He has a level bite. He has good rounding to the top of his head. His ears are set reasonably well apart and are in good proportion for the size of his head. They are wide in the base with rounded tips. His skull shows reasonably good depth in profile. It has a rounded brow, but his nose break lacks definition at present and his nose had a wee bump and fell away slightly at the end. His lower jaw has acceptable depth, but I would prefer more and it was slightly receding. He has a solid well muscled body with a well rounded chest and a straight back. His legs are elegant yet sturdy and in proportion to his body, with taller hind legs, they have neat oval paws. His tail balances to the shoulder and tapers to a rounded end from a medium base. His coat still has a kitten soft texture to it and is quite short. It was a warm, yet a pale chocolate with minimal contrast in his mask and ears. A very gentle young man who was shown in super condition and purred away very nicely for me this morning.

Class 408b Chocolate Burmese Kitten Female

1st & BoB Mr & Mrs Williams’ MOLYNMEUX DINKYDEUX 27b F 25-10-2009 (6 months 6 days) Also my nomination and final choice for BOV Burmese Kitten, I was very pleased to see she became overall Best Burmese today – congratulations to her breeder-owners. A bit of a wriggler who had lots to say for herself this morning, but she soon settled down nicely and allowed me to assess her. Looking rather lovely today. She has large and lustrous eyes which have good definition to the upper lids and superb fullness to lower lids when she settles down, they are also set very well and are golden yellow in colour. Face on she has a short wide wedge which tapers to a blunt muzzle and has a level bite. She has lovely rounding between her ears which are set very well apart, they are nicely balanced, wide in the base and have rounded tips. She has a very typical contour to her upper face. Her profile shows good depth to her skull. She has pleasing rounding to her brow. Her nose break was good but I would prefer greater definition still, a straight nose line, her lower jaw has good depth, her chin is strong and it is correctly aligned to the end of her nose in a straight vertical plane. Her medium body has good weight for her size and has excellent muscle tone. She has a straight back and a strong chest. Her stance shows correctly taller hind legs which were slender and elegant. She has neat spoon shaped paws. Her tail balances and tapers very well to a paint brush tip from a medium base. Her coat is short and has a superb satin texture for a kitten - a very mature feel. It is a warm honey toned chocolate with minimal contrast to her mask and ears. She was shown in excellent condition and handled well once she settled – I wondered if she might be starting her first call.

2nd Dr Collin’s AUREUS BEWITCHED 27b F 18-01-2010 (3 months 1 week & 6 days) Very babyish little person. She has quite large and lustrous eyes, the upper lids were rather full and rounded today yet she had very good fullness to lower lids and they are set very well apart. They are golden yellow in colour. Face on she has a short wedge which is lacking width at present. She has a level bite, but was teething today. She has pleasing rounding between her ears which are set very well apart, they are rather large for her head at present and dominate somewhat; wide in the base and having rounded tips. Her profile shows good depth to her skull. She has good rounding to her brow yet in profile it was a tad long. She lacks definition in her nose break due to her teething no doubt and has a mostly straight nose line, whilst her lower jaw has reasonable depth I would like a little more for perfection, it is correctly aligned to the end of her nose in a straight vertical plane. Her medium body has good weight for her dainty size and had excellent muscle tone. She has a straight back and a strong chest. Her stance shows correctly taller hind legs, all of her limbs were slender and elegant. She has neat oval paws. Her tail balances and tapers very well to a paint brush tip from a medium base. Her coat was short but felt a little harsh along her spine line today; it is pale chocolate in colour with minimal contrast to her mask and ears. She was shown in excellent condition and was a little shy to start off with, but very sweet and gentle. Showing promise, I will be watching out to see how she develops.

A new full judge

I can now announce that I have been promoted to a Full Judge on the Burmese List at the full council meeting earlier today. I need to thank the BBAC for their faith in my abilities and kindness along the way, all the show managers who offered me a tremendous number of opportunities to judge whilst I was a first time PJ, the exhibitors for entering under me, my friends for putting up with my neurosis during this time, those who stewarded for me especially Heather, Ally who proofed my reports without fail (those of you who know my typing skills will appreciate what a mammoth effort that was!) and Lynda & Sarndra for encouraging me from the very start. Of course none of it would be possible if Olive had not suggested I show my first Burmese ... Thank you one and all!
