Merseyside Cat Club Show 6-6-2009

My thanks to Jen and the Merseyside Committee for their kind invitation to judge at their show, it was good to be back near the Mersey again. My thanks to Liz Prescott who stewarded for me and handled the judge and the exhibits superbly!

OPEN CLASS:

Class 590 Brown Burmese Kitten

1st & BoB Mrs Hall’s SANLIS VASHTA NEVADA (27) F

Quote a wary little baby who wasn’t at all sure about this showing business. Her eyes appeared medium in sized which was mostly due to how she held them, but she would not relax them fully for me, they were golden yellow in colour and had a moderate slant to her upper lids and quite full rounding to her lower lid, set well apart. Face on she has a short wide wedge that tapers to a blunt muzzle, an essentially level bite [but the upper incisors are concave] gently rounded top of her head and her ears which are a good size for her head wide in the base and rounded at the tips are well very well apart. Her profile shows a skull of good depth, nicely rounded brow, well define nose break, a straight nose line which falls away slightly at the end, a jaw of decent depth which aligns in a straight plane to the end of her nose. Her medium sized body was well grown and felt weighty she had a strong chest and straight back, her limbs were in keeping and had oval paws and she had a good stance. Her tail balanced and tapered from a medium base to a paint brush finish. Her kitten coat was till slightly long but lay very close to her body and felt quite soft, it was a warm lighter brown as the colour is still developing it was a little brindled and there were faint ghost marks on her limbs. Shown in excellent condition and handled very well.

MISCELLANEOUS CLASSES:

Class 533 AV Foreign Kitten

1st Mr & Mrs Johnson’s KAHK CZAR DOMBROVSKI (16a) M

An elegant boy who is developing nicely with an excellent frame, ears held high but he was twisting them at the base today in a most uncharacteristic fashion, he also tended to round his eyes; the colour is still developing currently a muddy green-yellow. His whisker pads were clearly prominent and added to that distinctive expression with the angle to his head still developing but his nose had the desired concave curve. His chin was strong and correct set. His body was long and solidly muscular, yet graceful and his coat had good density to it if a little soft. Shown in excellent condition he handled beautifully.

2nd Mr Tams’ POOLSIDE TANTALIZINGTORTIE (33a 28) F

This sweet youngster had super shape to eyes which were golden yellow in colour, her mood only enhanced her look! She had a fairly wide wedge, but it was too long unfortunately and more stop is needed, her bite was essentially level. She had super sized ears which were set wide apart across a fairly flat top of head, she could have done with more chin for balance. She was well covered but her coat had a slightly harsh texture in places. Her whippy tail balanced nicely and her body felt well muscled for her size. A charming blue tortie in a charming blue tortie mood!

Class 544 AC Limit Cat

A superb class of you females all really rather edible – thank you!

1st Mrs Fleming’s SHOELINA TAHITI TROT (16a) F

Superb Russian – simply adorable! (I fell in love her as a kitten earlier this year). Stunning head type , superb ears set and held well, aspect is coming along nicely, lovely eye set and shape with an amazing intense green colour developing very nicely and the upper corners pointing nicely to the lower lines of her ears. Lovely wedge and prominent whisker pads – excellent profile. I simply adored that paler blue coat without a trace of ticking though the odd ghost mark on her tail. An elegant body that although small, lets face she ‘s only just adult, is weighty for its size. Her tail balances and she was a joy to handle – a very confident young lady – made my day!

2nd Mr & Mrs Miskelly’s GLENDAVAN SPELLBOUND (23) F

A stunning young lady who was very unlucky to meet the winner today! A lovely moderate head, nice profile break, stunning amber eyes of lovely shape and wonderful wide bases to her large pricked ears! She had super ticking and very rich ground colour which was most attractive, her coat had the require drag to it, she has grown very well and is feeling solid for her size, her tail balanced well and she a very elegant and dainty look to her which was most appealing – she handled wonderfully too! Lots of promise I would think – a very confident girl.

Extra 2nd Ms Murphy’s KALTES RHAPSODY INBLUE (33a 16) F

Another stunner who was very unlucky to meet the girls above. A rather lovely girl with a super wide wedge, very good stop but her shallow receding chin just spoilt her balance for me. Nice width to cheek bones and good flat top of head, elegant neck and super sized ears – lovely golden colour eyes but perhaps a little long in the nose line. Otherwise a good body, excellent covering, with waves coming in well and a super shade of blue which although it counts for nothing I wanted to mention. Nicely grown body and shown in super condition. Again another youngster showing lots of promise.

3rd Mr Thomas’ THOMSTAR LOTTIE (76 30) F

Class 547 AC Senior Cat

1st Mrs Fleming’s GRCH SHOELINA NINA MALKINA (16a) F

Another Russian with super head type! The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree I see. Again lovely head type, ears standing well, good aspect, green eyes of correct shape, super whisker pads giving excellent definition to her wedge, level bite and decent depth to chin. Her body was a little slender, her coat had excellent texture and a pleasing shade of charcoal blue, tail balanced and limbs were elegant. A little shy preferring to be in her pen today but handled well.

2nd Mr & Mrs Lloyd’s CH NAMOONA DAMARA (78 30) F

A little shy today, warm bronze ground colour with small but clearly defined spots and pleasing facial markings. Whilst her face had many desirable features she did not look quite as worried I would expect of the breed; pale gooseberry eyes, parallel lines evident along her nose, muzzle a little fine, level bite and chin a tad weak. Her body was well grown and her tail balanced, again she too had elegant limbs and handle very nicely.

Class 558 AC Limit Kitten

1st Miss Bradley’s NEMOREZ SCARLETOHARA (72g) F

This little sweetheart had a very pleasing expression. Large and lustrous pale yellow eyes with good shape to both upper and lower lids set well apart across her head. Face on she shows a short wide wedge which tapers to a blunt muzzle, she has a level bite, with lovely rounding to her top of head, her ears, which were of good size and shape with wee tufts, were set well apart and offer a please contour to the outline of her head. In profile her skull has good depth, very nicely rounded brow, defined nose break, straight nose line and jaw of good depth although I would like a little more for perfection, it did however sit in the correct plane. Her medium sized body is growing nicely for her age, has good weight and muscle tone to it, a strong rounded chest and a straight back; her limbs are elegant and dainty, they are also in keeping with her body, they have oval paws and the correct stance showing taller hind legs. Her tail balances to the shoulder and tapers well from a medium base to a paint brush tip. Her coat was a dark slate blue mingled well with shades of cream and was coloured to the roots, her coat is still a tad long [I did find adult Burmese who had similar length today] for which I gave this kitten the benefit of the doubt as she is still a work in progress; it did however had a lovely fine texture silky feel to it and lies very close to her body. Shown in excellent condition and very edible!

2nd Mr & Mrs Johnson’s KAHK CZAR DOMBROVSKI (16a) M (See above)

Class 572 AC Adolescent Neuter

1st Ms Rotter’s MOEI SILVER TIPPY TOES (34) MN

Quite the pleasing young man of just 10 month. Excellent name as he had Silver Tippy-Toes! Lovely head type; heart shape is showing face on, nice space between eyes that are still developing in colour and have a way to go before they will be fully green, but they were large and nicely shaped; gentle curving muzzle, large ears and acceptable nose break in profile. Large well grown body for his age, dark charcoal colour to his coat with appropriate silver tipping especially evident around his toes! Tail balanced body and had a rounded tip. Elegant limbs in proportion and shown in excellent condition; just little shy today.

2nd Mr Porter’s MUMANDACATS FULL MONTY (76 30) MN

An attractive boy who had a suitably small wild-looking-head for his well grown body. Super pattern with excellent arrowheads on a rich rufus background. His head sported a broad muzzle, high cheek bones, gentle curve to profile and pronounced whisker pads. Limbs and tail in keeping. He handled well and was shown in excellent condition.

3rd Mrs & Mr Ripley’s BRAMBLEWOOD MUSASA-KHAN (76 30) MN

Class 574 AC senior Neuter

1st Mr & Mrs Penny’s GRPR HOADHILL FUNTIME FRANKIE (76 30) MN

Rather attractive boy who enjoys being handled – as he did each of the other occaission I;ve judged him! Medium sized head compared to his body but what excellent head type, medium wedge, high check bones, concave curve between bridge and nose leather, large broad nose, very full muzzle, strong chin, thick muscular neck. Medium ears, short and wide, light furnishings. Round eyes slanting to ear base, green in colour. Long substantial body robust and large showing good depth to flank. Strong legs and large rounded paws. Thick medium tail. Short coat. Excellent pattern with superb rufus genes giving a strong and vibrant orange ground. Very pleasing exhibit – striking pattern and charming temperament.

2nd Mr & Mrs N Bayley's PR NEMOREZ AZUREDLIGHT, 68a MN

Rather fed up Tiffanie by the time I saw him. Large, lustrous eyes set wide apart, showing an almost horizontal line to his top lids and full rounding to lower when relaxed, golden yellow in tone having the required blue rims. Face on this boy had a short extremely wide wedge and had a tendency to square off the angles which was somewhat untypical of the breed, a level bite, very nice rounding to his top of head and larger ears which are well furnished ears; wide in the base with rounded tips and pleasing tufts, which also were set well apart. In profile his skull had reasonable depth, well rounded brow and his break was lacking in definition though having a straight nose and chin of very good depth; set in a straight plane with the end of his nose. Medium body not quite as heavy as might be expected, with a strong chest and straight back set on heavier legs than are desirable having solid rounded paws; furnished with toe tufts and blue paw pads. Tail was well plumed, but was just short to balance to his body. Dark charcoal blue coat which was sound to the root, had a silky texture of the correct length; showing minimal ruff, minimal breaches and plume to the tail, the coat was quite fine but his undercoat was rather too full [it needs stripping back to give it the desired fine coat that is now being achieved] and lacked preparation; he was let down by some knotting. Though rather upset he handled well enough.

3rd Mr Crutchley TOBYSDEN DAISYMAE (76b20) FN 28/04/2005

Class 622 AC Limit Cat

1st Ms K Wilson MAHARANI VANITY FAIR (27b) F

A rather shy girl who handled very well. Large and lustrous golden yellow eyes with an inner chartreuse rim developing set well apart and with super shape. Face on she had a short wide wedge which tapered well to a blunt muzzle, a level bite, pleasing rounding to the top of her head, her ears were well set apart and were of a good size for her head – she was holding them back a little so I could not fully assess them but they appeared to have rounded tips and seem generously wide in the base – it was not possible to comment on their profile tilt. Her skull was reasonably deep in profile, good rounding to brow, defined nose break, straight nose, jaw line had reasonable depth but I would prefer more depth for perfection it was correctly aligned to the end of her nose. Her medium sized body was amply weighty and a nicely rounded chest, straight back, and elegant limbs in keeping with her body and oval paws – she was reluctant to stand for us to assess her stance. Her tail just balanced, tapers well to a paint brush finish from a medium base. Her coat was short and felt silky to the touch; it was a rather pale chocolate over her body and limbs with a fair degree of contrast to a warm milk chocolate masked and points which might hopefully even out as she ages. A rather gentle girl who prefer to under her blanket bless her.

2nd Mrs Ward’s ADATEBU LADY CASSANDRA (27) F

An absolute sweetheart of a youngster who is still rather immature. Medium sized yellow-chartreuse eyes set as wide as they could be on a rather immature head that need more breadth to it as yet. Face on her wedge was of medium width and could be short for perfection it tapered reasonably and she had a level bite, gentle rounding to her top of head and her ears which were wide at the base and had round tips could do with being a little larger for balance. In profile her skull has reasonable depth, nice rounding to brow, an acceptable nose break, her nose line was essentially straight but falls away little to the end, her jaw had reasonable depth could do with more but was set in a straight plane to the end of her nose. Her medium sized body is growing nicely felt weighty with a strong chest and straight back, her limbs were in keeping and had oval paws and the correct taller hind legs. Her tail was just short to balance, taper well from a medium thick base to a paint brush finish. Her medium length coat was a warm brown but had a rather odd gritty texture which I think is due to the littler she had. Shown in excellent condition and a really positive sweet natured girl who hopefully just needs some time to mature.

Class 624 AC Junior Cat

1st Mrs Wilshaw’s CH ROSSIKHAN CENTREFOLD (27c) F

A very pretty girl. Large and lustrous golden yellow eyes with inner chartreuse rim which were well set with super shape to both lids giving a typical Burmese expression, especially fine slant to her upper lids and full rounding to her lower lids. Face one she has a short wide wedge which tapers to a blunt muzzle and has a level bite, pleasing rounding to her top of head and her perfectly proportioned ears; wide in the base with rounded tips, they are set well apart on her broad head – giving a super contour to the outline of her face. Her profile shows her ears have the desired forward tilt, excellent rounding to her brow, skull of good depth, super nose break and straight nose line, a jaw of good depth but I would like a fraction more for absolute perfection and it was set in the correct plane to the end of her nose. Her medium sized body feels firm with good muscle tone, having a straight back and strong chest. She has slender elegant, but proportionate legs with dainty oval paws and the correct stance; taller hind legs. Her tail just balanced and tapered well to a paint brush finish from a medium base. Her coat was short having that expensive satin like feel, it was a warm lilac tone and was very even. Although a little upset at the prospect of leaving her pen she handled very well epically after having a big cuddle for reassurance and was shown in excellent condition.

2nd Mr & Mrs Tarbuck’s CH MOLYROSSI STARBUCK (27c) F

Rather an upset girl today. Large and lustrous pale yellow eyes that were unfortunately totally rounded, I did notice she did in fact have correctly shaped eyes after she had settled down. Face on she has a short wide wedge which tapers to a blunt muzzle and she has essentially a level bite her upper incisors where set just fractionally ahead of her lower incisors but they did meet, she has a gently rounded top of head and correct well set ears of excellent proportions with wide bases and rounded tips which formed a pleasing contour to the outline of her head. In profile she reasonably good depth to her skull, slightly flatter brow than desired, a defined nose break but her nose line has slight bump to it, her jaw has reasonable depth; needing more for perfection, but sits correctly in a straight plane to the end of her nose. Her medium sized body felt solid and muscular, having a straight back and a nicely rounded chest, her limbs with proportionate to her body and were elegant have dainty oval paws and a correct stance. Her tail was just short to balance, tapering well from a medium base to a paint brush finish. Her coat was a pale lilac with some hints of shading along her back, was medium in length and lies very close to her body felling like satin. Shown in excellent condition but just a little too upset to show off all of her assets to their best today.

3rd Mrs Gorman’s MOLYNMEUX DEMEUXRE (27c) F

4th Dr Collin’s CH AUREUS CHAMPAGNE CHARLIE (27b) M

Class 629 AC Breeders Kitten

1st Mr & Mrs Williams’ MOLYNMEUX ZAZEUX (27j) F

Absolutely fabulous! Large and lustrous pale golden eyes with an inner chartreuse rim, excellent slant to upper lids and fully rounded lower lids, set well apart. She has a short wide wedge which tapers nicely to a blunt muzzle, a level bite, nice rounding to the top of her head, her well balanced ears and wide in the base with rounded tips and set very well and add balance to the outline of her head. In profile she a deep skull, pleasing rounding to her brow, a very good nose break, a straight that just falls away a tad at the end, decent depth to her jaw which is set in the correct plane to the end of her nose. Her body feels weighty and muscular, she has a strong chest and a straight back, slender and elegant legs with neat oval paws and correct stance. Her tail balances and tapers well to paint brush finish. Her coat colour is still developing but she is current a lighter shade of lilac with nicely mingled shades of cream, her coat is short and feels very silky despite being a kitten coat. Shown is excellent condition and have a very confident and out going nature – a very nice kitten!

Class 635 AC Novice Kitten

Mrs Edwards’ MOEI LUCINDA LOVELACE (27c) F

A sweet girl. Large and lustrous eye of pale golden yellow, her upper lid was a little too horizontal but the lower lids were fully rounded and they were set well apart but I did crave for me breadth to her head. Face on she has a medium width muzzle, her bit was level, she had gentle rounding to her top of head, her well proportioned ears wide at the bases and display suitably rounded tips were set as wide apart as they could be. In profile her skull had reasonable depth, a rounded brow, her nose break could take more definition but she appeared to be teething somewhat, her slightly long nose line fell away slightly at the end and her jaw which needs more depth was receding a little. Her body is growing well and has a firm muscular felt o it, a strong chest and straight back, with proportionate sized limbs which were dainty, having oval paws and taller hind legs. Her tail balanced and tapered well from a medium base to a paint brush finish. Her coat was short and had very good texture to it feeling very soft and silky; it was a pale lilac with pink casting coming through very nicely. She was shown in excellent condition and has a very sweet temperament.

Class 655 AC Visitors Neuter

1st Dr Giles CH & PR RAWEKE MIRROR IMAGE (27) FN

A very attractive exhibit. Large and lustrous chartreuse eyes with excellent slant to upper lids and well rounded lower lids set well in her broad head. Looking at her face on she has a short wide wedge which tapers nicely to a broad blunt muzzle with a level bite, nicely rounded top of head with well shaped and sized ears which are set well apart. In profile her skull could do with a little more depth for balance, nicely rounded brow, good nose break and an essentially straight nose line apart from the end where there is a tiny bump which then appears to fall away, her jaw has reasonable depth but really needs to be deeper for perfection as it rather makes her chin look weak, it is correctly aligned to the end of her nose. Her body feels weighty and firm, it has a strong chest and a straight back, her legs are elegant and in keeping with her body they have oval paws and the correct stance. Her tail balances to her shoulder and tapers well to a paint brush finish from a medium base. Her coat is of good short length, with a soft and silky feel to it and is rich brown in colour. She was shown in very good condition and handled well.

2nd Mrs Jubb’s PR MAHARANI GABRIELLE (27) FN

A very pleasing exhibit; large and lustrous chartreuse eyes, set wide apart with good shape. Face on she has a short wide wedge, with a level bite and it tapers to a blunt muzzle, her ears are a good size, broad at the base with correct profile tilt, set wide apart on a gently rounded head. In profile she displays a gentle rounding to brow, good nose break, straight nose but a bump just past her nose break and chin of good depth which was set back a little. Body of medium size, very good weighty feeling, a strong broad chest and straight back. Neat legs with dainty oval paws which are in proportion to the body with taller hind legs. Tail is of good shape with plenty of length to balance with a paint brush tip which felt slightly tensile at the tip today. Coat has a super silky feel and is pleasing rich warm brown. Shown in excellent condition; handle very well, a charming gentle girl.

3rd Mrs Hartley’s KARLAC BOUNCING BEANO (27c) MN

Class 909 AC Burmese Adult

1st Dr Collin’s GRCH ARTRO BROWN ANWEN (27) F

A very pretty exhibit. She had large and lustrous pale yellow eyes; they were correctly set and had an excellent slant to the upper lids and very full rounding to the lower. Head on she had a short wide wedge, blunt muzzle with a level bite, a very rounded top of her head and ears that are a little small for her generous sized head, but set well, wide at the base and with rounded tips. In profile her skull had good depth, a very rounded brow, very good nose break, straight nose and jaw of reasonable depth that could do with more for perfection, set correctly in a straight plane to the end of her nose. Her body is large and appropriately weighty, a strong chest and straight back, proportionate legs with spoon shaped paws thought she refused to stand to assess her stance today. Her tail balanced and tapered to paint brush tip. Her coat was a rich dark brown in colour with sprinkling of white hairs across her shoulders but her coat was quite short in length, feeling like satin. Shown in excellent condition, a little grizzly but she handled well enough preferring to be back in her pen.
