North West Cat Club 26-09-2009

My thanks to Lesley & the committee for inviting me to judge at the club show again. It hardly seems like a year since I first judged at this show. I really like the lighting in the new venue and the penning sequence was a really helpful for a judge on his own, as my booked steward was unable to attend.

Open Classes:

Class 340 Asian Smoke or Burmilla Kitten

1st & BoB Mrs Bunting’s CHINATREE XCHARDI ANDERSON (72 43asq) M, 04-04-

A very well grown boy for his age. His muddy yellow eyes are medium in size but set well apart. The upper lids are a tad hooded, yet the lower lids are reasonably well rounded. His ears are good a size and shape for balance, being wide at the base with round tips and are set well apart on his head. He has a short but medium-wide wedge which tapers to a blunt muzzle. He has a level bite. His profile shows a skull of reasonable depth, a rounded brow, a nose break that could take more definition and a straight nose. Although his jaw finishes in the correct vertical plane to the end of his nose it would be enhanced by more depth to give fullness to his chin. His large body feels weighty and has very good muscle tone to it giving a masculine appearance. He has a strong chest and straight back. His limbs are in keeping with his body having correctly taller hind legs with oval paws. His tail balances and tapers well to a paint brush tip from a medium base. His colour could well have been darkened by the pristine silver base and suffered from tarnishing too, but for me it has a burnt toffee brown tone in a few too many in areas such as his head, down his back and there were hints of metallic tone in the areas surrounding his paw pads. I gave him the benefit of doubt on this occasion although I suspect his registration will eventually need changing to 72 43nsq as there are tell tale signs of the dilute modifier at work, but as with all Burmese colour restricted coats it will take time to be fully realised. He is evidently shaded and a mantle of colour descends well down his body, he has thumb prints to his ears, an M to his forehead, a scarab, spectacle lines, a broken necklace and a clear spine line which carries along his tail to a solid tip. He has a few smudges on his forelegs but does have solid hocks to his hind legs. His coat was well developed for his age feeling rather silky in texture and lying close to his body. He handled well for me but did not like to be out of his pen for too long.

Class 409a Lilac Burmese Kitten Male

1st Mrs Pointon’s AUREUS EL NINO 27c M 02-05-2009

A charming youngster and very well grown for his 4 months and 3 weeks and all important 2 days! He has medium sized eyes. They need more definition to the slant to the nose though the lower lids are quite well rounded. They are set well apart in his head. Face on he has a short wide wedge which tapers well to a broad blunt muzzle. He has a level bite. He has a gently rounded head and ears that are set very well apart. His ears have wide bases, rounded tips and balance his head very well at present. They have the correct profile tilt. In profile his skull has reasonably good depth. He has a gently rounded brow. He has a good nose break which I would prefer to be stronger for perfection, a straight nose line and a deep lower jaw which give his chin very good depth, it aligns to the same vertical plane as the end of his nose. His long body felt pleasingly weighty and had good muscle tone for his age. He has a strong chest and a straight back. His limbs are elegant. He has the correct stance and taller hind legs with neat spoon shaped paws. His tail balances to his shoulder. It tapers well from a medium thick base to a paint brush tip. His coat has a nice lilac tone with some pink casting developing nicely. It was also a typical kitten coat, acceptable in length for this stage, whilst being silky in texture for the most part it did however had a slight harsh feel just towards the based of his spine. He was shown in superb condition. He has a super temperament; was very happy and inquisitive chap on the day.

Class 409b Lilac Burmese Kitten Female

A lovely class of beautiful lilac females!

1st & BOB Miss Negus’ ROSSIKHAN DADDYS GIRL 27c F 11-01-2009

Superb expression is the first thing I wrote down about his kitten – she has such a intense gaze. She has large and lustrous eyes which have excellent definition to the upper lids and super fullness to lower lids and are set very well. They are muddy golden yellow in colour in this show hall. Face on she has a short wide wedge which tapers to a blunt muzzle. She has a level bite. She has lovely rounding between her ears which are set very well apart; they are nicely balanced; wide in the base and having rounded tips. She has a very typical contour to her upper face – lovely butterfly wing effect. Her profile shows very good depth to her skull. She has good rounding to her brow. She has a well defined nose break and a straight nose line, whilst her lower jaw has good depth I would like a little more for absolute perfection her chin could be a tad fuller. It is correctly aligned to the end of her nose in a straight vertical plane. Her body has good weight for her size and is nicely balanced. She has a straight back and a strong chest. Her stance shows correctly taller hind legs which were dainty and elegant. She has neat oval paws. Her tail balances and tapers very well to a rounded end from a medium base. Her coat has a super fine texture and satin like feel to it. It is mid tone lilac with good pink casting. She was shown is excellent condition. She is a quietly confident girl who is very sweet and gentle - I really enjoyed handling her today.

2nd Prof Bradley’s MAHARANI BELLE DE JOUR 27c F 31-01-2009

Another lovely girl but rather frightened by the show process. I had to judge her in the pen as she was just too upset to be out on the table or in my arms. She has large and lustrous eyes. They have good shape; well defined line in her upper lids which were more horizontal than slanting and very fully rounded lower lids. They are set well apart in her pleasing head and are Golden in colour. Face on she has a short wide wedge which tapers well to a blunt muzzle. She has a level bite. She has a gently rounded head and ears that are set very well apart. Her ears have wide bases, rounded tips and are suitably sized to balance her head. In profile her skull has reasonably good depth. She has a gently rounded brow. Her nose break could take more definition for perfection, a straight nose line and a reasonably deep lower jaw, that gave her a reasonably deep chin; it ends in the same vertical plane as her nose. Her medium sized body felt weighty and has nice muscle tone. She has a rounded chest and a straight back. Her limbs are dainty and elegant with taller hind legs. She has neat oval paws. Her tail was rather short to balance. It tapers well from a medium thick base to a paint brush tip. Her coat fits her like a glove and has super silk like texture. In colour it was a somewhat darker, blue-tone lilac. She was shown in superb condition. She was a very sweet girl when back in her pen and enjoyed a fuss.

3rd Dr Giles RAWEKE IN HGH DEFINITION 27c F 09-04-2009

The baby of the class has something rather appealing about her but needs a bit more time to settle down and balance out. She has large and lustrous eyes which were set very nicely apart. They have quite good shape; her upper lids were a little horizontal and lower lids were very fully rounded. They are golden yellow in colour. Face on she has a short wide wedge which tapers well to a blunt muzzle. She has a level bite. She has a gently rounded head and ears that are not set as far apart as I would like at present. Her ears have wide bases, rounded tips and are a trifle large to balance her head. In profile her skull has reasonably good depth. She has a gently rounded brow. She has a very good nose break, a straight nose line which is a trifle long for perfection currently and has acceptable depth to the lower jaw which rather left me wanting a deeper chin, it does end in the same vertical plane as her nose. Her body is a little long but felt weighty and has good muscle tone. She has a rounded chest and a straight back. Her limbs are dainty and have the correct stance with taller hind legs. She has dainty spoon shaped paws. Her tail balances well to her shoulder. It tapers well from a medium thick base to a paint brush tip. Her coat is quite short for her age and has a good satin like texture and feel to it. I found it to have a lovely pink toned lilac giving a pleasing pastel effect. She was shown in superb condition. She was very, very sweet and I will watch out for her in future as I suspect she had recently had a growth spurt and will look forward to seeing how she develops.

STUNNING! Surprisingly he has gained even more substance since I last saw him and is really fulfilling his early promise. Super expression to his large and lustrous eyes, set well apart and having super shape, well defined slanting line to nose in the upper lids and fully rounded lower lids. 2nd Dr Collin’s AUREUS SWEET JULIET 27 F 30-09-2008

Another very attractive youngster unlucky to meet the winner today. She has large and lustrous eyes which would benefit from a shade more definition to the upper lids and pleasing fullness to lower lids they are also set very well. They are pale yellow in colour today. Face on she has a short wide wedge which tapers to a blunt muzzle – it could be a tad broader for perfection. Her bite whilst level was concave in profile in that both upper and lower sets of incisors are pointing into her mouth. She has lovely rounding between her ears which are set very well apart; they are a little small for my taste; wide in the base and having rounded tips. Her profile shows quite good depth to her skull. She has good rounding to her brow. She has a good nose break and a straight nose line which falls away slight just towards the end, whilst her lower jaw has reasonable good depth I would like a little more for absolute perfection, her chin could be also be a tad fuller. It is correctly aligned to the end of her nose in a straight vertical plane. Her body has good weight for her size and is very nicely balanced. She has a straight back and strong chest. Her stance shows correctly taller hind legs which were dainty and elegant. She also has neat spoon shaped paws. Her tail balances and tapers very well to a paint brush tip from a medium base. They are pale golden yellow in colour. She has a short wide wedge which tapers to a blunt muzzle. She has a level bite. She has a good contour to her upper face. Her profile shows good depth to her skull. She has good rounding to her brow. She has a well defined nose break and a straight nose line, whilst her lower jaw has reasonably good depth her chin accordingly is fractionally lacking in depth. It is correctly aligned to the end of her nose in a straight vertical plan. Her head type is very pleasing. Her body has good weight for her size and is nicely balanced. She has a straight back and strong chest. Her stance shows correctly taller hind legs which were dainty and elegant. She has neat oval paws. 3rd Ms Wilson’s MAHARANI VANITY FAIR 27b 27-07-2008

Class 706 AC Burmese Visitors Adult (5entered, 2 absent)

1st Mrs & Miss Matthews’ CH KATCHYN ORANGE BLOSSOM 27d 13-03-2008

This exhibit is really beginning to blossom. She has quite large eyes, good slanting line to her upper lids today but lower lids could be fuller for perfection, they are set well apart. They are rich golden amber in colour. Face on she has a short wide wedge which tapers well to a blunt muzzle, she has a rather untidy bite. She has gentle rounding between her ears which are set well and balance her head well. They are wide in the base and have rounded tips. They continue the contour to the outline of her head very nicely. In profile she has reasonably good depth to her skull, a rounded brow, a good break and a straight nose which falls away slightly towards the end, her jaw is acceptable but more depth is required for perfection, it does align in the correct vertical plane to the end of her nose. Her chin could be a touch deeper for perfection. Her medium size body is developing nicely, feeling weighty and muscular, she has a strong chest and a straight back. Her limbs are slender and elegant. They are proportionate with her body and correctly taller in the hind pair. They have oval paws. Her tail balances to her shoulder, and tapers well to a paint brush tip. Her coat is short and feel silky to the touch. In colour it is a rich yet warm tangerine red. She handled well and was shown in excellent condition. Nice to see how much she has developed since I last handled her.

2nd Mr & Mrs Tarbuck’s CH MOLYROSSI STARBUCK 27c F 18-09-2007

A lovely girl. Lustrous eyes they have the correct shape and are pale golden in colour with pleasing mascara effect to the rims. Face on she has a short wide wedge which tapers to a blunt muzzle and she has an essentially level bite. She has a gently rounded top of head and correct well set ears of excellent proportions with wide bases and rounded tips which formed a pleasing contour to the outline of her head. In profile she has reasonably good depth to her skull, slightly flatter brow than desired, a defined nose break but her nose line has a slight bump to it and falls away marginally towards the end. Her jaw has reasonable depth; needing more for perfection which would afford her chin the desired fullness, it appeared just slightly set back today. Her medium sized body felt solid and muscular, having a straight back and a nicely rounded chest. Her limbs are proportionate to her body and were elegant, having the desired stance. She has very neat paws. Her tail was just short to balance, tapering well from a medium base to a paint brush finish. Her coat is short in length and lies very close to her body feeling like satin. It is a mid tone lilac with hints of pink casting in colour. Shown in excellent condition and was a little bit shy today but handled well never-the-less

Class 719 AC Burmese Senior Neuter (7 entered 1 withdrawn)

1st Mr & Mrs Gilbert’s IGRPR MARSHMIST ELEANOR 27h FN 20-09-2001

A really delightful exhibit who is a joy! She has large and lustrous eyes set well apart, having the desire slant to her upper lids and full rounded lower lids. Chartreuse in colour. Face on she has a very pleasing Burmese look; short wide wedge which tapers to a blunt finish, she has a level bite. She has gentle rounding between her ears which were set well apart and their outline continues the contour to her upper face well. Her ears balance her head nicely being wide in the base and having rounded tips. Her skull has reasonably good depth in profile, a nicely rounded brow, a good nose break, straight nose line, a jaw of reasonably good depth that lies in the correct vertical plane to the end of her nose, I would prefer it to be a little deeper to add a little more depth to her chin. Her body is a good size, nicely muscled with a strong chest and straight back. Her limbs are in keeping and very elegant, they have correctly taller hind legs and neat oval paws. Her tail is just a fraction short to balance to the shoulder, it tapers well from a medium base to a paint brush tip. Her coat is very short and silky to the touch. It is a very warm chocolate and well mingled with shades of red. She was shown in excellent condition and I find her to be a really lovely exhibit.

2nd Mr & Mrs Hardy’s CH MACHIKA GEMINI 27b FN 14-06-2005

A real sweetheart. She has large and lustrous eyes. They have good shape; nicely defined slants in her upper lids and fully rounded lower lids. They are set well. I found them to be chartreuse in the hall lighting today. Face on she has a short wide wedge which tapers well to a blunt muzzle. She has a messy bite [For BBAC uneven incisors but essential level]. She has a gently rounded head and ears that are set well apart. Her ears have wide bases, they have rounded tips and balance her head. They also have the correct profile tilt. In profile her skull has reasonably good depth. She had a gently rounded brow. She has a very good nose break, a straight nose line and a reasonably deep lower jaw which could be deeper to add the desired fullness to her chin. Her medium sized body felt very weighty and had good muscle tone. She has a rounded chest and a straight back. Her limbs are elegant. She has the correct stance. She has dainty spoon shaped paws. Her tail just about balances to her shoulder. It tapers well from a rather thick base to a paint brush tip. Her coat was also quite short and has a lovely satin effect. It is mid toned chocolate with minimal yet dark contrast evident. She was shown in superb condition. She was a very sweet natured girl – who preferred to be in her pen today.

A really classy exhibit! She has large and lustrous eyes which have excellent definition to the upper lids and pleasing fullness to her lower lids they are also set very well. They had a super eye-liner effect which is accentuated by superb silvering. They are golden yellow in colour. Her mood only improved her expression! Face on she has a short wide wedge which tapers to a blunt muzzle and a level bite. She has lovely rounding between her ears which are set exceptionally well apart; they are nicely balanced; wide in the base and having rounded tips. She has a typical contour to her upper face. Her profile shows good depth to her skull. She has good rounding to her brow. She has a well defined nose break and a straight nose line, whilst her lower jaw has good depth her chin accordingly has good depth and presence. It is correctly aligned to the end of her nose in a straight vertical plane. Her head is well balanced and just screams BURMESE. Her body has good weight for her size and is nicely balanced. She has a straight back and strong chest. Her stance shows correctly taller hind legs which were dainty and elegant. She has attractive spoon shaped paws. Her tail balances and tapers very well to a rounded end from a medium base [FOR BBAC only: it felt slightly tensile towards the finally vertebrae]. Her coat is short and has a satin like feel to it. It is medium tone blue with superb silvering. She was shown is excellent condition. She was a little disturbed by the antics of some of her fellow exhibits but handled well enough. A real pleasure for this blue lover.

2nd Mrs Riddle’s PR OAKFORD SWEET WILLIAM 27f MN 20-06-2008

What a schmoozer! Reasonably large and lustrous eyes, upper lids tending to be held horizontally today and good rounding to lower lids, set well apart. Golden amber yellow in colour. He has a reasonably short wide wedge, it tapers quite well and has a level bite. Gentle rounding between ears that are a good size, balanced and are set well apart. He has a pleasing contour to his upper face. Skull has reasonable depth, a rounded brow, his nose break needs more definition and a straight nose line. His lower jaw needs more depth to give his chin better balance but was correctly set in an aligning vertical plane to the end of his nose. His long body has good weight and muscle tone, but I still feel he needs to fill out a bit more yet, he has a strong chest and straight back. His limbs are in proportion and have good stance with oval paws. His tail balances and tapers well to a paint brush finish. His coat is quite short and has good texture, it is deep cream in colour with powdering developing across his shoulders. A very sweet lad with a super attitude who handled really well and enjoyed the attention!
