Asian Group & Shorthair Cat Associations 10-01-09

My thanks to Lynda and the AGCS committee for the invitation to judge at the club show and to Celia for allowing the extra side classes for the Short Hair show. Also I am, as usual, indebted to Heather Bradley for her care and considerate handling of the exhibits and the judge. Many thanks to the exhibitors for trusting me to judge your delightful cats at the breed show.

Open Classes
Asian Self Kitten Male (14 weeks to 6months)
1st Mr & Mrs Trotter’s TROTKATZ CHOCOLATE ROBIN (72b) M 17/09/08
Gorgeous wee baby boy! Poor wee man seemed to be teething rather badly in the morning. I noticed later in the afternoon he had settled down and was looking very relaxed and settled. Large and lustrous rich golden amber eyes greeted me first; they are set well apart and had a very pleasing shape to them. Head on he has a short wide wedge, he was teething badly when I handled him and the duty vet confirmed he had a slightly irregular lower tooth but his bite was level, a blunt muzzle, rather pronounced rounding in the top of head (almost a Dome) at present which might be expected in such a young kitten. His ears were set well apart, being of good shape at present, wide at the base with rounded tips and slight tufts (due to his teething pains it was not possible to assess the profile tilt today). In profile his skull shows good depth, a very rounded “kitten” brow, a very good nose break, an essentially straight nose that fell away slight to his nose leather, jaw of good depth which lay in the correct plane to his nose. His medium sized body was very well filled for his age having that lovely plump kitten feel, but the muscles are developing nicely, strong chest and straight back. His legs were in proportion, the hind pair being taller and having oval paws. His coat was very much a baby coat going through that first moult and was patchy in terms of hair length and quality due to this, but it was a superb shade of chocolate, very warm and absolutely sound to the roots, he had a few stray white hairs mostly guard hairs though and his nose leather and paws were a complimentary shade of chocolate to match his coat. All in all a very sweet little chap who although suffering with teething pain when we examined him purred away and really enjoyed a fuss today. Will look forward to watching his development.

2nd Mrs Ward’s RHUGGIBEAR EBONY CHIEFTAN (72) M 19/09/08
What a well grown youngster. His medium eyes were set wide apart and well shaped with correct slant to upper lid and pleasing rounding to lower, in colour they were a muddy yellow still. Head on he has a short wide wedge, with a blunt muzzle which was marginally pinched today due teething perhaps, but having a level bite; he also shows gentle round between his wide set ears which were of acceptable size, wide at the base with rounded tips. In profile his skull showed reasonable depth, a rounded brow, good break to his straight nose and acceptable depth to his jaw, I would prefer greater depth for perfection, which was set back slightly. His medium sized body was of excellent weight, with a strong chest and straight back. His limbs were medium sized but well proportioned, taller on the hind legs with attractive spoon shaped paws. His moderately thick tail balanced and had a paint brush tip. His coat was rather kittenish at present - a tad fluffy still; it was coloured to the root but there were some pronounced white hairs evident, no doubt where mum has been carrying him around, obviously black in colour with matching nose leather and paw pads. Shown in excellent condition and well prepared; such a sweet little soul who was very cheerful!

Asian Self Kitten Male (6months to 9months)
1st Mrs Pashler’s ADATESH COOLIAS EDUSA (72a) M 04/06/08
Rich golden yellow eyes which unfortunately he distorts somewhat narrowing them inside the pen and then widen them to “Chapel Hat Peg” size outside of the pen, he also rather tended to hood over the upper lids, set wide apart on his somewhat narrow head. Face on his has a medium length medium width muzzle which may well have been distorted by teething as his bite was confirmed as level by the duty vet but the lower teeth appear to be pushing further forward. He was puffing out his whisker pad though but had gentle rounding between his ears but they needed to be further apart as his head was somewhat narrow. Ears of reasonable size, wide in the base, with rounded tips and correct profile slant. His skull was of medium depth in profile, showing a rounded brow, a reasonable nose break, a straight nose a looking but a little too long, with a shallow receding jaw. His body was well grown for his age and he had very good weight and muscles developing nicely, a strong chest and a straight back. He had long legs which were in proportion to his body, neat oval paws and correctly taller hind legs. His tail balanced, had a gentle taper to a rounded end. His coat was slightly long but had good texture, it was the most unusual blue I have seen with a strange Pinkie-Brown (Cinnamon?) shade which was somewhat patchily scatter about his coat – there was a hint of silvering too but there was colour to the root if somewhat paler. A little nervous but handled well.

2nd Mrs Pashler’s ADATESH AGROTIS PRONUSI (72a) M 04/06/08
This report will be very similar to his brother as they were almost alike as peas in a pod with a couple of minor differences. Medium sized eyes of golden yellow with green inner rim though, correct shape again with slight hooding to upper lids and set wide apart. Head on he was as narrow as his brother with medium width wedge of medium length, bite was level but whiskers puffed out again, gentle rounding but ears though set as far apart as they could be they still look incorrect because the head is not broad enough to take them as yet, they are of reasonable size, wide in the base and with rounding at the tips profile tilt was not quite there yet. Medium depth to skull in profile, rounding to brow, a weak nose break which needs more definition, straight if somewhat long nose, slight receding jaw which was again too shallow. Again a well grown body, with good weight and muscles developing very nicely, strong chest and straight back. Good long legs in proportion to body, neat oval paws and taller hind legs. Again coat the same as his brother slightly too long, that same odd pinkish-brown shade mingled into the pale blue but colour descending to the root if paling top the root. I am afraid he was tenser than his brother which along with his inner green rim and weaker nose break separated them for me.

Asian Self Kitten Female (6months to 9months)
Another pair of siblings who are developing really nicely!
1st Ms Rice’s CORVUS CELESTIAL (72b) F 24/05/08
Lovely girl who I was pleased to see since I saw her a few months back in Yorkshire continues to develop beautifully. Rather lovely large and lustrous rich coppery amber eyes set well apart her broad head, super shape giving a typical pleasing expression with their super slant to the nose in the upper lids and fully round lower lids. Head on she has a pleasing short wide wedge, leading to a blunt muzzle finish with a level bite, gentle rounding across her broad head with well set ears; which are of good shape and size, wide in the base with rounded tips and have a good profile tilt. Her skull has very good depth in profile, a rounded brow with a very good nose break, straight short nose, jaw of acceptable depth set in correct plane to the end of her nose. Her medium sized body has very good weight, super muscle tone for her age, a good strong chest and straight back, her elegant legs are in proportion with neat oval paws and taller hind legs. Her tail balances and tapers well to a paint brush tip, being generally of moderate thickness. A lovely rich chocolate coat colour if paling slight towards the root with correct nose leather and paw pads to compliment her colour, the coat is leek and lies very close to her body. Shown in excellent condition and having a very sweet nature.

2nd Ms Rice’s CORVUS EUPHORIA (72b) F 24/05/08
Another super young lady what a shame to be competing against her sister but lovely to see her out supporting her breed and showing how lovely the Chocolate Selfs can be. Again large and lustrous deep coppery amber eyes correctly set and shaped. Very pleasing head on with a short wide wedge, level bite and good muzzle shape, gentle rounding and ears set well apart. Her ears are a good shape and size for her head, wide at the base and with pleasing rounding to the tips and correct profile tile. She has a deep skull in profile and a nicely rounded brow, her break is acceptable but not as good as her sisters I’m afraid, her short nose is straight but falls way slightly toward the nose leather at the end, her jaw is of acceptable depth and sits correct in the right plane to the end of her nose. Nice medium sized body of very good weight and muscle tone developing nicely, strong chest and straight back, medium sized legs in proportion to her body with nice oval paws and taller hind legs. Tail balances well and tapers to a paint brush tip but is slight thicker than her sisters. Again another lovely dark rich chocolate but pales much more towards the root than her sister’s coat, it too was sleek and lies very close to her body. A lovely girl who handled well but did not seem quite as confident as her sister.

Tiffanie Kitten Female (14 weeks to 6 months)
1st Mrs Ward’s HUGGIBEAR AUTUMN PROMISE (68 45) F 19/09/08
What a super expression this wee baby had – a real cutie! Large and lustrous rich golden eyes set wide apart with super shape, lovely expressive slant to nose in upper lids and fully rounded to lower lids – typical expression. Super head on showing a short wide wedge, wide at the jaw hinge with a blunt muzzle finish and a level bite, ears set wide across a gently rounded top. Ears of good size, wide at the base, round tips with lovely tufts and gentle furnishings still developing, already displaying the correct profile tilt. Good depth to skull in profile, with a rounded brow, good break, straight nose that fell away slightly at the end of her nose, good depth to jaw and set correctly in good plane to end of her nose. Medium sized body of good weight for size with a rounded chest and straight back, dainty legs in proportion to body with sweet little spoon shaped paws and correctly taller hind legs. Her medium thick tail balanced and tapered to a paint brush tip. Her ticking is developing but evident; having thumbs to ears, M to forehead, spectacles, faint broken necklace, and solid spine descending down her tail no rings to tail but having stripes on all four legs. Her coat colour is developing I would hope the background colour still has a good way to go yet as was a bit indistinct. The coat texture was still rather immature and very kitten fluffy none-the-less well presented and a very sweet little baby.

WC Mrs Reavil ADATSH AMARKATE (68 43esq) F 10/08/08
Unfortunately I could not find a single trace of Red in the kitten and would respectfully suggest she should registered at 68 43sq
Well grown girl with large eyes of golden yellow tone, good shape to upper lid but lower lid could be fuller for perfection, set wide apart. Head she has a short wide wedge, good width at jaw hinge and tapering to a blunt muzzle finish with gentle rounding to top of head and ear which are of good size and set, wide at the base, round tip with wee tuft developing nicely, set well apart showing good profile slant. Skull has medium depth, rounded brow, good nose break, straight nose, reasonable depth of jaw and correct plane to nose end. Medium sized body is developing well and has good weight, strong chest and straight back; paws are in proportion with oval paws and correctly taller hind legs. Her tail balanced and tapered to a rounded end. Whilst her coat is still developing it is quite pleasing already with a plum, ruff, ear streamers and toe tufts beginning to develop; unfortunately she had no evidence of red intermingled anywhere on her coat or paw pads (I even check in between her toes) she had a lovely even mantle of BCR brown over a pristine silver background; scarab, M to forehead, spectacles and spine line all developing nicely. A real shame to have to wrong colour her as she was otherwise a rather charming exhibit who though a little tense handled well.

AV Asian Adult bred by Exhibitor, Male
1st Mrs Turner-Russell’s Gr Ch WELLBRAND HAYMAKER 72 43cq M 04/05/05 BCR
Medium large pale green eyes set well apart with correct shape. Face on showing short wide wedge, level bite and blunt muzzle, gentle rounding between ears which were set well apart, they are good for size, wide at the base, with rounded tips. In profile having medium depth to skull, rounded brow, good nose break, straight nose, jaw of reasonable depth in correct plane to nose end. Medium body of pleasing weight, strong chest and straight back, medium legs in proportion, oval paws and taller hind legs. Medium thick tail balances and tapers to a rounded end. I did hesitate over his colour which was border line caramel with hints of metallic sheen but I gave the benefit of the doubt after consulting a full judge. Definite pinkish casting but dulled slightly by the hall lighting which may have added to the sheen effect around the hocks and paws, light beige background colour, light thumb prints to ears, M to forehead and scarab evident too, spectacles on face, faint necklace, stripes to legs and tail, of soft and satin like texture marginally long, would prefer shorter for perfection. Shown in super condition and handled very well.

2nd Mrs Laugher’s Gr Ch LOHR AZTEC CAMERA 72 43bsq M 11/04/07 Oh dear a rather upset young man who have given the judge before me a rather hard time. Large and lustrous pale yellow eyes set well apart with correct shape. Face on showing medium width to wedge could not check bite due to his mood but has a relatively blunt muzzle, slightly flat top between ears which were set well apart, of good size, wide at the base, with rounded tips and wee tufts. In profile has reasonable depth to skull, gently rounded brow, nose break could do with more definition, straight nose with slight roll off to nose leather, jaw of medium depth in correct plane to nose tip. Large frame body of reasonable weight and good muscle tone but looked a tad rangy at present, strong chest and straight back, long legs which adds to the rangy look, oval paws and taller hind legs. Tail balanced and tapered to a rounded end, free from faults. Good even mantle of BCR chocolate which is appropriately cooled by the pristine silver background, faint thumbs to ears, skull cap and M to forehead, spectacles to face, well descended spine line to solid tip. Coat of medium length and silky texture – what a shame he was rather grumpy and uncooperative today but managed to handle him in his pen without injury or upset to either of us.

Simply gorgeous; super type and lovely coat for colour, texture and length a proper SLH coat. Large and lustrous pale golden yellow eyes set well apart with excellent shape; super slant to upper lids and full rounding to lower lids. Face on showing short wide wedge, level if slightly untidy bite and blunt muzzle, gently rounded between ears which were set well apart, they are good for size, wide at the base, with rounded tips and tufts and streamers developing nicely. In profile having excellent depth to skull, rounded brow, very good nose break, straight nose, jaw of good depth in correct plane to nose end. Medium body of pleasing weight, strong chest and straight back, medium legs in proportion to body, oval paws and taller hind legs. Medium thick tail balances and tapers to a rounded end. Super true rich chestnut BCR brown which was very even and glowing with a healthy sheen on her silky and fine semi-longhaired length coat. Her coat is still developing with the plum and ruff somewhat in development at this stage but the texture was truly stunning. She was somewhat frightened when we arrived at her pen but she handle well and after covering her with a blanket she had settled down well by the time we returned for my tutorial

2nd Ms Bradley’s Gr Ch KAMEHAHD TICKETY BOO (72 45) F 21/09/05 A very sweet girl. Large and lustrous rich coppery amber eyes set well apart with correct shape. Face on showing short but medium width wedge, level bite and blunt muzzle, gentle rounding between ears which would look better if they could be set across a broader head, they are good for size, wide at the base, with rounded tips. In profile she has good depth to skull, rounded brow, good nose break, straight nose, jaw of reasonable depth in correct plane to nose end. Medium body of pleasing weight, strong chest and straight back, medium legs in proportion, oval paws and taller hind legs. Medium thick tail balances and tapers to a paint brush tip. Super even ticked coat that fits her like a glove with a smooth as silk feel to it, rich coppery tone to background set against black bands of ticking. Ears have thumb prints, head has skull cap, M to forehead and spectacle lines to face, broken necklace, solid spin line descending down her tail to a solid tip with strips to all legs and solid hocks that ascended well. A very gentle girl who is always a pleasure to handle just needs more width to her otherwise lovely head.

What a character! Large and lustrous pale green-yellow eyes set well apart with correct shape. Face on showing short wide wedge, level bite and blunt muzzle, gently rounded between ears which were set well apart, they are good for size, wide at the base, with rounded tips. In profile having very good depth to skull, a very rounded brow, good nose break, straight nose, jaw of good depth in correct plane to nose end. Medium body of pleasing weight – rather well fed but she looks good on it, strong chest and straight back, medium legs in proportion, oval paws and taller hind legs. Medium thick tail just balances and tapers well to a rounded end. Clear defined black ticking on a gentle coppery background with grey (slating) in roots across shoulders but this did not disturb her colour; good thumb prints to ears, M to forehead, spectacles to face and broken necklace, well developed hocks and stripes to legs, her spine line descend to solid tip at end of tail – her coat was short and had a lovely soft feel to it. She handled well even though she had a lot to say for herself and some of it unrepeatable, but really showed us her displeasure when we put her back in her pen but not harm done – as I stated a larger than life character, but I bet she’s great fun to live with!

AV Asian Radius Neuter
1st Mrs Elrdige’s Gr Pr FRILFORD FUSILIER (72 43s) MN 10/10/02 Nice lad who was well behaved and handled well. Large and lustrous golden yellow eyes, set well apart with correct shape. Face on showing short but medium wide wedge which rather lets him down as it need more width for balance, level bite and blunt muzzle, gentle rounding between ears which were set well apart, they are good for size, wide at the base, with rounded tips. In profile his skull had medium depth, a rather flat brow, his nose break was lacking in definition, straight nose, jaw of reasonable dept in correct plane to nose end. Large body of excellent weight, strong chest and straight back, medium legs in proportion, oval paws and taller hind legs. Medium thick tail balances and tapers to a rounded end. His black was sometimes a little unconvincing in places, it appears to have quite a brown tinge to it especially around his paws and tail as if they’d been bleached out but not a tarnished look, clear silver background though. Scarab to head, M to forehead, stripes on legs and tail, faint broken necklace and faint thumbs to ears also, his coat was too long really but lies well. A gentle giant who handled very well.

1st Mrs & Miss Halligan’s MUMANDACATS MAMMA MIA (79 30)
Quite simply one of the most eye catching Bengals I have ever seen, amazing wild look to head; small with super ears lovely expression across eyes. Her pattern was so striking although she appeared to have pale ground to her pelt the golden traces were quite remarkable with super arrow heads that had wonderful dark outlining to define them yet a mellow inner contrasting warm brown colour – a very lovely girl very pleasing!

2nd Ms Southall’s COLDENOUGHFORSNOW YUKIKO (83aw)
Super confident girl! Medium sized head in proportion to her solid body, having a broad wedge with rounded contours, top of head was rounded nicely and forehead beginning to flatten, straight nose, firm chin. Alert good sized ears and broad at the base. Beautiful shade of blue to eyes of good shape and set. Good muscling to medium sized body. Legs of good length with oval paws. Tail balances well tapering to a rounded end. Coat was quite short, having good texture and healthy glossy sheen to it. Super pattern with absolutely minimal white covering on her paws which did not ascend up her leg and small white triangle on her face.

Extra 2nd Mrs Caunter’s THICKTHORN CAFÉ AU LAIT 73ks
An exquisite Ocicat kitten whose colour was very attractive and set on a pristine silver background. Typical Ocicat look except for a slightly broader muzzle than I would expect, large ears set well and wide in the base, large almond eyes which were very expressive, solid feel to her body which was developing nicely having legs of equal substance. Long tail had a slight taper. Super markings to her face and body a very attractive kitten.

A very appealing girl with a lovely shade of cream. Large and lustrous eyes of a rich yellow amber tone, set well apart and with very good shape to both upper and lower lids. Head on she had a short wide wedge, level bite which was a little untidy, blunt muzzle and gently rounded top; upon which sat well set ears of good size, wide in the base and had rounded tips which displayed the correct profile tilt. Her profile showed a skull of good depth with very gentle rounding to brow, a good break with a straight nose and jaw of reasonable depth which was set in the correct plane to the end of her nose. Medium body had good weight and muscle tone feeling well fed! She had a strong chest and straight back, proportionately medium size legs which had oval paws, correct height to hind legs. Her tail balanced, was medium thin and tapered well to a paint brush end. A rich, yet pastel cream with super powdering evident across her head, spine and rounded areas. Shown in super condition, a very positive sweet girl and was a real pleasure to meet!

2nd Prof K Jarvis KYMIAN MARTHA 27h, F, 15-10-06
Another rather sweet young lady who was unlucky to meet the winner today. Large and lustrous pale golden yellow eyes set well apart, super shape to eyes especially when relaxed. Head on shows a short wide wedge, level bite and blunt muzzle, gentle rounding to top of head and ears that are of good shape, wide in the base with rounded tips and good profile tilt, set well apart. In profile she had good depth to her skull, a rounded brow, reasonable nose break, straight nose, jaw of reasonable depth set in the correct plane to end of her nose. Medium sized body just about acceptable weight, strong chest and straight back; her legs were in proportion to her body, having oval paws and taller hind legs. Tail balanced, tapered to a rounded end but there was slightly tensile feel toward the end. Short, soft, silky coat of a warm chocolate tone, lightly mingled with shades of red which was very attractive. Her condition was generally good, but I would have preferred her to have been heavier at her age. A very sweet girl who handled very well despite being somewhat concerned about the blower above us.
