Yorkshire County Cat Club 25-10-2208

My thanks to Lynda, Jacky & Susan and the Yorkshire committee for this invitation to judge at my home show, which after all is a little bit mine after running it last year! I thoroughly enjoyed myself and am so grateful for the exhibitors for letting me handle so many top quality cats. As ever I am eternally grateful to my super steward Heather Bradley who handles the cats with such care – thank you Heather. It was really special to share the occasion with so many of my fellow Burmese Breeder-Probationer-Judges and to celebrate the club’s eightieth with the doyen of Burmese Breeder Judges (one of the very first Burmese breeder judges in fact) Mrs Enid Holmes, who celebrated her own special eightieth too earlier this year; please don’t retire Enid!

Class 333a Asian Smoke or Burmilla Kitten Male
1st & BoB Miss Nichols’ PREFERE SABASTIAN YRADIER, 72 43dsq 26-01-2008
A very charming young man! Large and lustrous rich amber eyes, set well apart, upper lid had minimal slant today but full rounding to lower lid. Ears are of a good size for head, wide at the base, rounded tips with small tufts beginning to develop, set well apart across a gently rounded head. He has a short wedge which is wide enough for his head however his head is a little narrow at present but still developing, the muzzle tapers to a blunt finish and has a level bite. In profile his skull is of good depth with a rounded brow, good nose break, with a small bump just after his break but is essential straight from here, jaw of good depth and sitting in the correct plane to the nose tip. His body is quite large for his age and is of very good weight with a strong chest and straight back. Proportionately long legs, taller in the hind with oval paws. Tail more than balances, taper to a paint brush tip but is rather thick. He is lightly shaded with a warm BCR red; the mantle is gradually descending from a firm spine line down his body and is very clear. He has an M to his forehead, a scarab, spectacles, faint thumb prints to his ears and a faint broken necklace, his legs are free from smudges or bars and his hocks are not fully covered by the colour yet. The silver background is clear and pristine enhancing his very pleasing colouration and pattern. His coat is somewhat long along his spine but lies well and is very soft to the touch. He was presented in excellent condition and is blessed with a charming disposition; clearly enjoying being handled – a lovely chap!

Class 334 Asian Tabby Kitten
1st & BoB Mrs Kemp’s NATZKATZ JABULANI, 72 45sq F, 26-01-2008
This young lady had super expression! Very large and lustrous eyes of pale chartreuse more yellow than green set well apart, with lovely shape to upper lid and full generous rounding to her lower lid which really made a big impact! Ears of good size for head, wide at the base, with rounded tip and no tufts, set well apart across her gently rounded head. She has a super short wide wedge, which tapers to a blunt finish and has a level bite. In profile her skull is of good depth, with a rounded brow, a very pleasing nose break with a very tiny bump to her otherwise straight nose, chin of reasonable depth which is set in a straight plane to her nose end. Her medium sized body is of good weight for her size, has a straight back and strong chest. She has medium sized legs which are in proportion to her body, the hind are taller than the fore legs and she has dainty spoon shaped paws. Her tail balances, tapers well to a paint brush end and is of medium thickness. Her deep BCR brown is cooled by the pristine silver background and ticking is evident but still developing; there are two to three bands of ticking however. She has an M to her forehead, a scarab, spectacle lines, super thumb prints to her ears, two broken necklaces, more smudges to her fore legs than her hind legs, a few small spots to her belly and very full hocks. Her coat is a little long but lies very close to her body feeling soft and silky to the touch. A sweet little girl who was a pleasure to handle.

Class 397a Blue Burmese Kitten Male
1st Miss Garlick’s SIGISMUND ONCEINABLUE MOON, 27a , M, 05-06-2008
A well grown youngster. Medium large eyes, colour still developing but showing muddy yellow with an inner green rim at present, set wide apart with correct slant to upper lid and rounded lower lid. Good sized ears set well apart across his gently rounded head, wide at the base with rounded tips and correct profile tilt. Head shows a short wide wedge tapering to a blunt muzzle finish with a bite where the teeth just meet, but due to teething was very slight overshot today. In profile showing a skull of good depth, rounded brow, nose break was disturbed by teething too but was acceptable, a straight nose which fell away slightly to the nose leather, acceptable jaw which was receding slightly today again possibly due to teething. For his age his relatively large body showed excellent weight and muscling, strong chest and straight back. His long legs are in proportion and the hind are taller than the fore legs; all having oval paws. Tail balanced, tapers to a paintbrush end and is of good shape. His coat was short, soft and silky in texture and was of a medium blue with silver developing there was faint ghosting to his hind legs. He handled well but was a little fractious today however essentially he was a sweet boy when back in his pen.

Class 397b Blue Burmese Kitten Female
1st & BoB Ms C Goodman’s DOKPHISUA APELIOTA, 27a, F, 07-03-2008
A very cute little girl! Large and lustrous rich muddy amber eyes set well apart with correct slant to upper lids and well rounded lower lids. Good sized ears for head set well across a gently rounded head, wide at the base with rounded tips and forward profile tilt. Head has short super wide wedge tapering well to a blunt muzzle finish, level bite although I suspect she was teething as her gums looked a little sore – head is obviously still developing. Her profile shows a skull of good depth, good rounding to brow, very good nose break, straight nose, and good depth to jaw which was set in correct straight plane to her nose end. She had a compact body which had very good weight for her size, a strong chest and straight back. He legs were medium sized but in proportion to her body, tall hind legs with neat oval paws. Her tail more than balanced, tapered well to a paint brush end but was a trifle thick. Her medium length coat was soft and silky in texture and lies close to her body had very please silvering developing, it was a darker charcoal blue across her back that down her flanks. Although a little small for her age she was in super condition with excellent weight for her size; a little bossy but very edible!

Class 399a Lilac Kitten Male
1st Miss Campbell’s MISCIASALI MOSHE, 27c , M, 16-02-2008
Confident well grown boy! Medium large golden yellow eyes which he tended to hood over slightly were set well apart and with correct shape to upper and lower lids. Good sized ears set well apart and quite low down the side of his head, wide at the base with rounded tips. Head has short wide wedge that tappers well to a blunt finish with a level bite. In profile he has a skull of good depth, rounded brow and good nose break, a straight nose with a shallow jaw that is set slightly back. His large body was of good weighty and good muscle tone, strong chest and having a straight back. Long legs are in proportion to his body being taller in the hind and having oval paws. Tail balances, tapering to paintbrush tip and is medium thick. His coat is short, soft and silky, medium lilac in tone. Shown in super condition and such a happy boy who handled very well!

2nd Mrs Akehurst’s CHIRAO PASTICCIO, 27c, M, 08-04-2008
A rather apprehensive youngster. It is hard to comment on the size of his eyes as he was not very relaxed, they were set well apart though – again shape was not possible to assess either. Good sized ears set well apart across a correctly rounded head, wide at the base with rounded tips. His wedge appeared to be of medium length but was very wide; he had a level bite but was exhibiting a pronounced muzzle pinch today. He had good depth to his skull, a rounded brow, super nose break and a straight nose, jaw of good depth and set in correct plane to nose end. His large body had very good weight to it with a strong chest and straight back. Proportionately large legs, taller in the hind pair with oval paws. Tail just balanced and tapered well to a rounded finish. His coat was soft and silky of medium length and showing a medium lilac tone. Shown in excellent condition he was rather unsure of himself and preferred to be back in his pen under his blanket.

Class 399b Lilac Kitten Female
1st & BoB Mrs Johnson’s VERVAIN CHERRYPLUM, 27c, F, 21-03-2008
Very petite, sweet and rather edible! Large and lustrous eyes, muddy golden yellow tone and still developing, set well apart with lovely slant to upper lid and fully rounded lower. Ears of good size for head, wide at the base with rounded tips set well apart across a gently rounded top of head. She has a short wide wedge that tapers to a blunt finish with a bite that meets but was slightly concave. Her skull was of pleasing depth with a very good nose break, straight nose, jaw of reasonable depth which was set it the correct plane to the end of her nose. Medium sized body which has excellent weight, a strong rounded chest and a straight back. Her legs are of medium size and in keeping to her body, taller hind legs with large oval paws perhaps indicating more growing to be done. Her tail balances and tapers to a paint brush tip and was of medium thickness. Her short coat was soft and silky to the touch and very fine, she had a lovely pale lilac with hints of pink casting setting it off a treat. Although marginally small for her age she was of super weight and in excellent condition. She was a sweet girl who purred throughout for us!

2nd Mrs Moore’s DULCAMARA PETRONELLA, 27c, F, 04-07-2008
Another lovely girl who was surprising tall for her age! Large and lustrous eyes, muddy golden yellow in colour which is still developing, set well apart of correct shape to upper and lower lids. Large ears which are appropriate in such a young kitten, very wide in the base with correct rounding to tips set well apart and quite low down her head already. Her head has a short wide wedge, which tapered to a blunt finish; her bite did meet but the upper teeth were fraction set ahead of the lower but not overshot hopefully just down to teething. In profile her skull had good depth, a rounded brow, acceptable nose break, straight nose, jaw of acceptable depth set slightly back at present. Her body is large for her age but of appropriate weight, a strong chest and a straight back. Her legs are in keeping to her body, with taller hind legs and oval paws. Her tail balanced, tapered to a paint brush finish and was medium thick. Her coat was a fractionally long but soft and silk in texture with a pleasing pale lilac tone with hints of pink developing nicely. Very good condition for her age and behaves beautifully, though is a bit of a chatter box commenting thorough out of encounter.

3rd Mrs Wilson’s KATZAKIORA TEHYA TABITHA, 27c, F, 09-02-2008
A rather sleepy girl who didn’t really show herself off very well. Another girl with large and lustrous muddy golden yellow eyes, set well apart but difficult to assess the shape as she was so very tired and held them somewhat awkwardly! Good sized ears, rather wide at the base with rounded tips set wide across her gently rounded top of head. Her short wedge is of medium width at present with a blunt finish and a level bite. In profile her head shows good depth, a rounded brow, good nose break, straight nose with a small fall off at her nose leather, jaw of acceptable depth but set slightly back. Her large body is not quite as heavy as I was expecting but has she has a strong chest and straight back. Her medium sized legs have spoon shaped paws and the hind legs are appropriately taller than her fore legs. Her tail just balances and tapers slightly to paint brush finish but is somewhat thick having a blunt feel to the final vertebrae. Medium length of coat is soft and silky, lying close to her body a pale lilac in colour and showing hints of pink particularly around her paws at present. Shown in good condition; a very gentle if somewhat dozy girl who needs to show herself off a bit more!

Class 717 AV Foreign Limit Kitten
1st Ms Rice’s CORVUS CELESTIAL, 72b, F, 24-05-2008
A very sweet young girl who was finding it hard going listening to her rather upsetting Bengal neighbour. Large and lustrous rich coppery amber eyes, set wide apart, good slant to upper lid with rounded lower lid. Good sized ears, wide at the base, with rounded tips and good profile tilt set well apart on a gentle rounded head. She has a typical short wide wedge, tapering to a blunt end, with a level bite; in profile her skull was deep with a rounded brow, good nose break, straight nose, jaw of good depth set in a straight plane to her nose tip. She has a well muscled medium size body, strong chest and straight back with legs in proportion correctly taller on her hind legs, having neat oval paws. Tail balances and tapers to a paint brush tip and is of good shape. She is a rich deep chocolate, very even and clear coated, coloured to the roots if paling gradually. Her coat is of a good length feeling soft and silky. Shown in very good condition I do hope her noisy neighbour has not put her off showing.

2nd Ms Leck & Miss Jenkins’ REKSIF DANUBE DANCER, 16a , M, 07-02-2008
Charming well grown youngster. Lovely head; profile is almost straight and his angle is developing nicely. Chin lines up well and is strong with a level bite. Large well seated ears. Eyes are coming along nicely and showing good shape. Well grown body which was strong but graceful. Long legs and oval paws. Tail was in proportion. Double coat was most impressive for age with a distinct silvery sheen developing nicely. He had super temperament and was a pleasure to handle today.

3rd Mrs & Miss Pollet’s WAVETAIL GANDOLF, 23e, M, 03-06-2008 (ran the second very close)

Class 727 AV Foreign Debutante Neuter
1st Mrs Hill’s UK & IGR CH JACNJAN JOSHUA, 33 15b, MN, 24-02-2003
What an adorable soul – my steward and I would have to do battle to take this sweet chap home! Lovely oval shaped eyes which occasionally he held little rounded but very expressive and well set. Ears have super shape and are set well with that special mussel shell look. Head shows high cheek bones and medium wedge with a rounded muzzle and strong having a level bite. Large but elegant body, strong muscles, long legs with dainty paws, tail was fine and tapered well. His coat was super and he was well covered. The texture of his short dense coat was wonderful like crust velvet and a please warm chocolate colour too which was hard to ignore. A very lovely temperament – such a winning personality could have wasted the whole day with him.

Class 746 AC Burmese Breeders Adult
A most enjoyable headache I really would have been grateful for 4 first places to offer but they wouldn’t give them to me!
1st Mrs Wilshaw’s ROSSIKHAN CUPCAKE, 27b, F, 16-08-2007
Simple gorgeous – she really is amazing out of her pen! Very large and lustrous pale yellow eyes set well apart with typical Burmese expression; upper lids slant to nose and lower lids are fully rounded. Ears are of good size and shape, wide at the base with rounded tips set well apart across super rounded head and also very low down the sides of her head. Her head has a short wide wedge, tapering to a blunt finish with a level bite. In profile her skull has very good depth, a rounded brow, good nose break with a straight nose and jaw of excellent depth set in a straight plane to her nose end. Her medium sized body has very good weight and super muscle tone, a straight back and strong chest. She has appropriate sized legs that are proportionate to her body, having oval paws and taller hind legs. Her tale is of super shape, balances well to her shoulder and tapers to a paint brush tip. Her honey toned chocolate almost glints with gold and has minimal contrast. Her coat is short in length, soft and silky in texture and very close lying. She was presented in excellent condition and has a loving disposition; she certainly knows how to show off – what a sweetheart!

2nd Mrs Wilshaw’s ROSSIKHAN CENTREFOLD, 27c, F, 03-11-2007
A for attitude was a remark left by another judge on her pen card, b for beauty, c for cuteness and I could carry on but it would be rather boring perhaps? Large and lustrous pale yellow eyes of excellent shape enhanced by super eye liner effect – giving a wonderful Burmese expression; excellent slant to upper lids enhanced by her attitude and generous rounding to her lower lids. Good sized ears, wide at the base and having rounded tips set well part but not as low as the winner of the class. Her head has a short wide wedge, tapering to a blunt muzzle finish with a level bite. Her profile shows a skull of good depth, rounding to brow, very good nose break, straight nose and jaw of reasonable depth set in correct plane to the end of her nose. Her medium sized body is of very good weight, with a strong chest and straight back. Her legs are proportionate to her body with oval paws and taller hind legs. Her tail balances, is of very good shape, tapering to a paint brush finish. Her coat was short, soft and silky and a very pleasing soft lilac with pink casting. She was presented in excellent condition, rather upset as I think she’s essentially quite shy and finds the show with all the attention her looks bring a little overwhelming – however the catch twenty two situation results in that attitude encouraging even more attention – super girl unlucky to meet the very laidback winner of this class today!

3rd Mr & Mrs Tarbuck’s MOLYROSSI SHEWOLF, 27b, F, 17-02-2006

Class 773 AC Burmese Neuter Male
1st Mrs Wilshaw’s PR ROSSIKHAN CARCKER JACK, 27c, MN, 05-10-2007
Super young man! Large and lustrous eyes of lovely golden yellow tone set wide apart with excellent shape – expressive slant to the nose on his upper lids and rounded lower lids; his attitude only enhanced the look. His ears are of good size for his head, wide at the base and rounded tips; set well across his well rounded head. His head has a short wide wedge which tapers to a blunt finish his bite was level his profiles shows a skull of very good depth, rounded brow, very good nose break, straight nose, good depth to jaw which is correctly set in a straight plane to the end of his nose. All in all his head has a super Burmese expression. His medium-large body is well muscled and of very good weight, he has a strong chest and a straight back. His legs are long but in proportion to his body, well muscled with oval paws and correctly taller hind legs. His tail balanced to his shoulder, tapered well to a paint brush tip and was of very good shape. His coat was very short, soft and silk like to the touch and belayed quality; having a mid lilac tone with pink casting evident. He was shown in excellent condition and although a little grumpy handled well.

2nd Mrs Hutchings’ GR PR TALIPAW BURLINGTON BERTIE, 27b, MN, 13-12-2004
A very relaxed chap! Medium-large but lustrous pale chartreuse eyes, set well with good shape to lids. Ears of good size for his head, set well apart across a gently rounded head, wide at the base and show rounded tips. Head has short wide wedge which tapers well with a blunt finish to the muzzle; but has an untidy bite. His profile showed a head of good depth, rounded brow, good break, straight nose, jaw of reasonable depth set in a straight plane to the end of his nose. His large body is well muscled with a strong chest and straight back. His long legs are very well muscled with oval paws; the fore and hind legs appeared to be of the same height. His tail balanced and was medium thick tapering to a round end there was a problem with a vertebrae just up from the end of his tail which although not a visible deviation was somewhat odd in shape possibly the result of a previous trauma? His coat was a little long but soft and silky to the touch, displaying a rather uneven shades of chocolate today with rather strong contrast in his dark points. Shown in very good condition a very sweet and gently chap!
